The Department was constituted in 2013, the year of inception of Malayalam University.

Basically this is a M.A. Malayalam course which gives special emphasis in creative writing. The main objective of M.A. course is to impart comprehensive PG level knowledge in Malayalam language and literature. Also to educate students in the aesthetic credos and literary styles of diverse eras and cultures, toward the further development of their own sensibilities. Also CW course offer the students the opportunity for extensive writing guided by teachers and supported by classmates, building up on reading and study in order to provide apprenticeship in the literary field. The syllabus emphasis in both theory and practice; theories of Literature and writing techniques.

To allow students to explore their individual abilities, we support extra-curricular activities including Literary Camps, Poetry Events, and Theatre Camps.
