The Vice Chairperson of HarithaKeralam Mission, Dr.T.N.Seema declared that Haritha Kerala project will be made into a mass movement in similar lines with the literacy movement. She was inaugurating the workshop on HarithaKeralam Mission at Malayalam University. Clean Kerala Mission has been active in the state for the past ten years. Yet due to certain shortcomings at the bureaucratic level, the mission was futile. It is at this juncture that the HarithaKeralam Project was launched to ensure sustainable development in agriculture, water conservation and waste management. The Mission draws together officers, representatives and organisations, thereby mobilizing the cooperation of the local self-governments to make it a success. The participation of students of the Departments of Environmental Studiesand Local Development Studiesof the university would be ensured in the HarithaKeralam Mission, she declared. Malayalam University Vice Chancellor, Shri. K. Jayakumar presided over the function. Prof. T. P. Kunjikannan, Head of the Department, Local Development Studies, Dr.Dhanya R., Dr.Jainy Varghese, Smt. V. Sreeja, Dr. A. P. Sreeraj addressed the audience.
