Delivering the key note address on ‘the politics and new media’ in the second day of media seminar conducted by the department of media studies, Thunchath Ezhuthachan Malayalam University, Dr. M. S. Sapna( Assistant Professor, Mysore university) said that as social media gives opportunity for common people to air their ideas and opinions, they especially the youth gets to make political alliances. Nisha Purushothaman (Chief news producer, Manorama news) shared her experiences with the students on the topic ‘in search of news in places of unrest’.
V. P. Rajeena (Senior sub editor, madhyamam daily) said sharing the anxieties of the media in general that compared to main stream mediahouses, social media do discuss the news stories that get hidden due to political interests. P. M. Anooja Das, Juby Francis Kallookkaran, Nisar Ahmed, V. Vibeesh and S. R. Yedu Nandan presented papers in a session chaired by E. K. Smitha (Assistant Professor, Tanur Govt College).
