Malayalam University students union ‘Koottayi’ inaugurated

Malayalam University students union named 'Koottayi' had a glorious beginning to its activities for the coming year. The venue of inauguration decorated with coconut leaves was indeed nostalgic. Mr. Thamim (The ambulance driver who saved a dying baby's life by driving from kannur to Thiruvananthapuram where it was o undergo a major surgery) inaugurated the function. Hakkim Koottayi, announcer, akashavani was the chief guest. In his speech Mr. Hakkim Koottayi recalled his fond memories of his native place, Koottayi. Mr. Thamim shared his thrilling experience of driving from Kannur to Thiruvanathapuram in around six hours. He described how people on both sides of the road urged him to go fast even late in the night during that memorable journey. He said he bows before the thousands of Malayalis for their goodness of heart. Pranav K, the union chairman presided over the function. HE explained that the union has formed an action plan of 13 events for the year which includes theater festival, lecture series and seminars.

The union plans to organize activities which are complementary to the academic programs of the University. Dr. K. M. Bharathan (registrar in charge), Dr. K. P Sreeraj (Union adviser), Dr. Roshni Swapna (fine arts adviser), T. P. Abhijith (Union general secretary)and K. Najmath(Joint secretary) talked at the function. K. P. Ajith, Vice Chairman presented a memento to Mr. Thamim and M. A. Akhil, Member of the executive committee to Mr. Hakkim Koottayi. Afterwards 'Unarv' folk arts troupe performed folk dance and folk music program.
