Malayalam University, named after Thunchath Ezhuthachan, is located in Tirur, Malappuram District of Kerala, where Ezhuthachan was born. The academic activities of the University were started in 2013 in newly constructed interim campus called Aksharam, at Vakkad, adjacent to the Thunchan Memorial Government College. A new spacious academic block was constructed in 2014 before the second batch of students were admitted and new courses commenced. Administrative office at Pookkayil, has been shifted to the Aksharam campus recently. Aksharam campus can be reached from the Calicut-Tirur road or from the Chamravattom-Tirur road. It is 7 kilometers from Tirur railway station.
