University’s programs and activities are very useful to the region as a whole: Adv. S Gireesh.

Inaugurating Sasthrayaan program organized by Malayalam University in collaboration with RUSA, Municipal chairman Adv. S Gireesh said that the extension activities of the university make the achievements in the academic field useful for the society. He added that varsity has actively intervened in the locality to contribute to Kudumbasree and local self governing bodies. Vice Chancellor Dr Usha Titus said in her keynote address that universities are not to live in an island instead they should engage in activities that involve popular participation. The term Sasthrayaan is relevant as it refers to the scientific perspective given to academics. The Vice Chancellor also stated that the common people should see and understand the activities of the university and thereby they can come to know about the needs of the people. The program was presided by the registrar K M Bharathan . Dean, Students Welfare,  Prof. T Anithakumary , technical co-ordinator , RUSA Sri. C L Joshi, Dr C Saidalavi, students union chairperson Amritha Sudarsan and Vineesh A K also talked at the function.

There were book exhibitions, art performance and workshops and exhibitions conducted by various departments as part of Sasthrayaan. Moorkkanad Peethambaran Aasaan gave a demo class as well as a performance of Thirayattam organized by the department of cultural heritage studies . department of sociology in co-ordination with Nirav , Kozhikkode conducted workshops on waste processing and management and paper pen making.

Faculty of literature conducted a workshop on thelimalayalam for the students of TTIs in Tirur. Dr Ashok D’cruz,   Dr C Ganesh and Dr Radhakrishnan talked at the workshop.

Apart from the exhibitions of heritage museum, Arabi Malayalam study centre, language disability centre and ormachepp photo exhibition of literary figures, there were exhibitions of documentaries and short films produced by the university.
