On 2014 February 21,22 and 23 Malayalam University witnessed the Inter-University Literary Festival Sahiti -2014 inside the Aksharam Campus. The literature loving students of all the 12 universities in Kerala participated in the event. Sahiti gave its prime importance to the creative spark of students.31 prominent writers of Kerala engaged in discussions and debates with the students. Their serious approach towards the world of literature in fact enriched the event a lot. Signaturing the Sahiti shield, M.T. Vasudevan Nair inaugurated the function and lightened the lamp. The whole festival lasted for three days. Different parallel sessions were going on and there were 4 stages named Nila, Vettom, Ponnani and Kottaka. Each of them witnessed discussions, debates, seminars, stories and poetry presentations, dialogues, quiz, books expo and documentary presentations.

The Session about poetry was handled by Smt. Sugathakumari, prof. Sachithanandan, prof. V.Madhusoodhanan Nair, S. Joseph and Prabha Varma. M. Mukundan, Sakkariya, Prof. Sara Joseph, K. P. Ramanunni, Santhosh Echikkanam, Shihabuddeen Poithumkadavu, B. Murali, T. P Rajeevan, Indumenon, Ashitha and Dr. M.T. Radhika endowed the session about Story writing. In the Seminar ‘The changing Environmental vision of Malayalam literature’, Asha Menon, G. Madhusoodhanan, Dr. Mini Prasad and Dr. C.R. Rajagopalan had talked. Dr. P Geetha, khadeeja Mumthas and Dr. Rosi Thampy had participated and talked in the discussion on ‘Feminist Malayalam Writings’. Ezhuthachan reminiscence speech was done by Dr. D. Benjamin.

Denouement function was presided over by C. Radhakrishnan and T. Padmanabhan inaugurated the same. As part of the festival university conducted inter-University competitions on poetry writing, short story writing and literary quiz.

Story writing Competition

  1. P. Jimshar, MCJ student of Kannur University got first prize for his story ‘Padachonte Chithrapradarshanam’.

Sujith Kamal who wrote ‘After Death’received the second prize and Lijisha A. T. of Malayalam University achieved third prize for her story Vazhvaadhaaram.

 The first day of Sahiti was blessed with the magnificent Mohiniyattom and Kadhakali performance by the Kerala Kalamandalam team. Second day evening witnessed Kadhaprasamgam by the renowned artist Prof. Vasanthkumar Sambashivan.
