Dr. Shyjan D (14/10/2020 onwards)
Dr. Shyjan D joined the Department of Economics, University of Calicut as Lecturer in 2005 after a brief sojourn in the same post at the prestigious St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai. He was then appointed as Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Economics, University of Calicut, Dr. John Matthai Centre, Thrissur, where he also served as Director of Dr. John Matthai Centre, Director of the Inter- University Center and Coordinator of MSc Forensic Science Programme at the Kerala Police Academy, Thrissur
He has been the Chairman of PG Board of Studies for Economics, University of Calicut since January 2020 and a member of the Board of Studies for Different Colleges and Universities across Kerala.
He is presently a member of the Kerala Public Expenditure Review Committee of Government of Kerala. He is also a special invitee to the Expert Committee constituted by the Government of Kerala to Study the Impact of COVID-19 on Kerala Economy.
He has attained his M.Phil and Ph.D from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi through the Centre for Development Studies (CDS), Trivandrum. His research interests include Service Sector Growth, Employment, and Fiscal Economics.
Dr. Shyjan’s illustrious career has been bench-marked by career experiences such as his tenure as Research Officer of the Fourth State Finance Commission, Government of Kerala (on deputation) and Member of the Memorandum Drafting Committee to the 15th Finance Commission for the Government of Kerala.
He has presented a paper at the 5th International Conference on “Regulating for Decent work” of the International Labour Office, United Nations, at Geneva in 2017. He was also a member of the team of Economists in drafting the Telangana Social Development Reports of 2017 and 2018 and contributed chapters on health, employment and occupational status in Telangana State.
Dr. Shyjan has also prepared the “Human Development Report of the Fisher-folk in Kerala” funded by UNDP-Planning Commission, through State Planning Board of Kerala.
He is presently working as consultant Senior Researcher on a Project focusing on 'workers in the small enterprises in India and their health security', a Joint venture of the Institute for Human Development, New Delhi and International Labour Office of the United Nations Organization.
Dr. Shyjan began his tenure as Registrar at Thunchath Ezhuthachan Malayalam University, Tirur, Malappuram, Kerala, on 14/10/2020, thus adding yet another golden page to the annals of an illustrious career as an Economist, Academician and Administrator.
